good news, bad news
Good news, bad news. Bad news first.
Bad news - we've had to cancel the gig on May 14th as I shall be half way across the world for work.
Good news - the lp is almost ready.. the artwork is there, we've basically mixed the songs which are going for mastering soon and then we'll get the manufacturers on the go for the finished product.
We'll be doing some sort of launch gig to celebrate it so news of that will follow soon. That will be a one off gig somewhere cool, that we might rig up to record live... various ideas are floating around, but we'd like to be able to play without a time limit, which means we wouldnt have to drop any songs.
Anyway, just a quick update. Apologies if you were planning on coming to the gig in May, but if you make the lp launch gig hopefully you wont be disappointed. I'm pretty excited by it ......
Oh and because the last few blogs have basically been a similar story.. I can let slip that the lp is called "It'll never be the same again"

what a start!
2008 - what mental year. Started with a single on Cloudberry Records (thanks Roque!), and we played gigs with some top, top bands - The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Decoration, and our swell friends The Postcards. We started recording songs for our first album (we're hoping for Easter Eggs to be stuffed with Hillfields tunes...). Then christmas came along and brought us a treat in making number 9 with 'Spoon' on the Dandelion Radio/John Peel Festive 50 - an honour and a privelege, for sure... thanks to all of you who kindly voted us in... this was added today, discovering In Love With These Times... inlcuded us at number 50 for our Cloudberry single in their top 100 singles of 2008, which added to the the smiles around these Hillfields...
We're recording again at the end of the month, but we're muchly looking forward to playing the Beat Hotel on Friday 23 Jan, then with our Lost Music friends on Fri 20 Feb...

sticking with the times
so, we're taking a little holiday after our last outing at Goonite, where we had the honour of headling and playing with some ace bands, including The Postcards... buckets and spades and tickets away perhaps, but when one Hillfield is off on the beach, the rest are beavering away..
Our Cloudberry recordings are now available for download - while we think you should stick to picking up a cute little Cloudberry single from Roque direct, you can now head over to i-Tunes if you want to keep it digital...
we've got a number of gigs lined up for the autumn around London, and looking further afield too... and we're very excited about getting in the studio to start recording our first album soon...

missed this time...
it's been a rollercoaster, 2008 thus far...
our debut single, A Visit (Cloudberry 78) came out on Cloudberry Records we received these little 3 inch jems from Roque a couple of weeks ago - they cost 5 US dollars each including worldwide postage...
our third gig as a full band on Friday sold out - we played with some great bands at Lost Music Presents Cloudberry! the Manhattan Love Suicides played some excellent noisy pop, we swapped polaroids with Strawberry Story, and loved the rush of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.... suffice to say, they're all worth checking out... and congrats to the lucky first 40 in who got their hands on What's All the Fuzz About (Cloudberry 503)- destined to become a very valuable pop nugget..
our next outing is being filmed for FluidMusic.tv, and it's free... see the gigs bit for the details...

brittle concrete hopes and other aspersions
strange days.... listening tonight tonight, as rob and I did, after a game of darts, to the final versions of our first bona fide recorded tunes, we realised there's a lot of water evaporating under the hillfields bridge these last few months...
we've been working with a tender genius of a producer, a singular talent by the name of Charlie Hugall, who has taken our stuff and done beautifully something else with our efforts, such that now we have our Cloudberry single in the resting gently in the proverbial, with a bonus track for the excellent Lost Music night ltd edition EP to be shared with those first lucky first 40 folks show to face at the Buffalo Bar, London Town on the 29th February 08...
Rob and I shivvered gently outside a south london boozer this evening (before we beat retreat) delighting in the fragile revelation that if moments hadn't aligned like this since Iggy Pop hit the South Bank of London, things wouldn't have been so good... So now, Rob's en route Bremen, Carlos is sampling the air of swell Swindon, and I'm going to have one more for the road and a good long stare at the winter trees outside before bed.../p>
very soon, we'll be sharing...

halloween is scarily fun...
Lots going on in The Hillfields - we're delighted to have discovered Carlos, a fabulous drummer way up in the mountains of Crystal Palace on Friday night... more about him (and the rest of us here hillfields) at the end of the here just over here...
now, we're gearing up to go in the studio and record some stuff with the whole band, and getting for our first gigs... come on down to Filthy MacNastys on 27 November, or even to BLANG! (which is already looking like it's going to be busy...) on 12 December...
excitingly, the chaps at IndieMP3's gave us a nice mention in their latest update - check it out... and keep your ears and eyes peeled - looks like our first release will be on the marvellous Cloudberry Records...

so, what do the hillfields do?
we're busy being born, and hunting drummers... if you know one, get in touch. in the meantime many hours are being spent hunched over, ruminating, cogitating, bending and breaking bits and pieces into song, some plaintive, some not. if you check us out on myspace, you can hear some of the fruits of these labours.

who and maybe why...
Born in the Royal Festival Hall, overcome by the raw power of Iggy Pop's 2007 Meltdown gig, a beautiful evening, and a smattering of beers... to get these things going you've got to get the right people. we're starting with the two...
Rob Hillfield, of various fames, like lo-fi noiseniks Partition, and his solo work perpetrated with Ian Catt. He writes somes songs, sings a lot, plays the guitars
Grant Hillfield, filmmaker, writer and recovering bass player... he writes some songs too, may one day sing, and most of the photos you see on here...
