bloody fingers… and then indietracks!!

July 20th, 2010

so we had a right royal blast on Saturday at Notting Hill Arts Club/RoTA, beautifully lead astray by Trev from Odd Box. We were particularly pleased to make the acquaintance of The Sequins, and loved the noise (all the way from Japan) of The Monorals. Both Rob and Grant ended with bloody fingers, Rob’s amp blew up again (!), and Carlos started with a bad back… we filmed the gig, so might be some video some time….

and we’ll be bandaged up for opening Indietracks indoor festival on Saturday. To say we’re excited would be a serious understatement…

and if you haven’t already, pop over to the Underused Records shop and pick up a copy of the Come Outside EP.

new EP – Come Outside…

May 17th, 2010

Our new EP “Come Outside” is released by Underused Records on June 7th…

Come Outside EP sleeve

“Come Outside EP” (USED004), is six songs about those difficult pre-nostalgic adolescent years, told from the point of view of a frustrated grown up. It finds the band menacingly taunting their childhood schooldays in “Colour It In”, “Talk Too Much” is a rant at people that do exactly that whilst lead track “Canvey Island Queen” recalls the mundanity of that first paid job in a hotel kitchen, dreaming of future possibilities of a rollercoaster life ride. The keyboard driven “Not on holiday” takes a cheeky pop at tourists, “Mix tape” regrets that first break up, with the closing track “What did you mean” lamenting lost opportunity.

lovely Indietracks…

March 11th, 2010

We are delighted and VERY excited to have been invited to play at this years Indietracks Festival in July, amongst some truly excellent bands – we feel lucky to have been asked. We will be doing a few warm up shows prior to the festival so watch this space!!

Our new ep is going to be released on June 7th. “Come Outside” will be a physical and digital release on the same day, more details to follow

woohoo!!

it’s finally upon us

September 16th, 2009

“It’ll Never Be The Same Again”, our first album, is coming out in a couple of weeks. It’s been a long old road, but we’re really chuffed with our handiwork, with excellent support from Simon Trought throughout out the recording at his own Soup Studios. A few choice emporia will be stocking the physical CD’s (which we recommended, as we think they look very nice), as well as through the label Underused Records. We’ve already had a few reviews from some blogs with their finger on the pulse. After the positives noise we’ve had from our single, Afterburn, after it was on Gideon Coe’s BBC6 show is all rather good.

Reviews to date – EarDrumsMusic / OddBox / A Layer of Chips

We’re also most pleased to be celbrating the launch of the album at Goonite on 21 October.

good news, bad news

July 9th, 2009

Good news, bad news. Bad news first.

Bad news – we’ve had to cancel the gig on May 14th as I shall be half way across the world for work.

Good news – the lp is almost ready.. the artwork is there, we’ve basically mixed the songs which are going for mastering soon and then we’ll get the manufacturers on the go for the finished product.

We’ll be doing some sort of launch gig to celebrate it so news of that will follow soon. That will be a one off gig somewhere cool, that we might rig up to record live… various ideas are floating around, but we’d like to be able to play without a time limit, which means we wouldnt have to drop any songs.

Anyway, just a quick update. Apologies if you were planning on coming to the gig in May, but if you make the lp launch gig hopefully you wont be disappointed. I’m pretty excited by it ……

Oh and because the last few blogs have basically been a similar story.. I can let slip that the lp is called “It’ll never be the same again”

next time will be something else

June 11th, 2009

our next outing has been confirmed at a special night put on by Feed Your Head, in association with Tourdates.co.uk, with The Dellas and Ice Station Zebra. We’re aiming to have our first album ready to go then, and it’s going to be called “It’ll Never Be The Same Again”, and will be coming out on Underused Records

what a start!

January 15th, 2009

2008 – what mental year. Started with a single on Cloudberry Records (thanks Roque!), and we played gigs with some top, top bands – The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Decoration, and our swell friends The Postcards. We started recording songs for our first album (we’re hoping for Easter Eggs to be stuffed with Hillfields tunes…). Then christmas came along and brought us a treat in making number 9 with ‘Spoon’ on the Dandelion Radio/John Peel Festive 50 – an honour and a privelege, for sure… thanks to all of you who kindly voted us in… this was added today, discovering In Love With These Times… inlcuded us at number 50 for our Cloudberry single in their top 100 singles of 2008, which added to the the smiles around these Hillfields…

We’re recording again at the end of the month, but we’re muchly looking forward to playing the Beat Hotel on Friday 23 Jan, then with our Lost Music friends on Fri 20 Feb…
